Proven Winners is going to have these two hosta available spring 2022
Comments (6)No, I have not heard of them. However, I'm usually happy with "proven winners" and those look like great hosta. They are on myhostas.be and on the hostalibrary, for better photos. Myhostas.be doesn't say anything. They are listed by name, not shadowland. bkay...See MoreNew Roses for North America 2023!
Comments (11)I realize this discussion is from nearly a year ago and is about 2023 roses, but does anyone know anything about Princess Buttercup (LUDbeachdarby)? Supposedly released in 2022, but I don't know if that's the South Africa release or the USA release. I can't find information about this in the USA other than Heirloom Roses: https://heirloomroses.com/collections/ludwigs-roses/products/princess-buttercup Even HelpMeFind comes up with no results. I just submitted this to HelpMeFind, but I don't know how long before it will show up. I ordered this and it arrived today. Looks like it might be low thorn, but that's all I can see for now (other than the description on Heirloom Roses). I read that it is normal for a company to remove the leaves for summer shipping to reduce stress on the plant; it's 100+F here continuously. This is the largest specimen with the most canes that I have ever received from Heirloom so maybe not many people are buying it....See MoreYour Best Three Roses

The classes I took in college (biochemistry, organic and inorganic chemistry, microbiology) help me to understand soil chemistry. Thirty years in growing 150+ varieties of own-root roses are what helps the most (I'm 61). I rooted a bunch of Evelyn & older Austins this summer & sold and donated $800 to charities. Not much profit when I sold so cheap compared to nurseries ... most of it is my money going to charities. Now I send each buyer a pic. of my rooting ., and let each buyer decides how much he/she wants to pay toward charities. Rooting indoor through my zone 5a winter is much harder, so the highest bidder gets Evelyn ... in case very few Evelyns can root INDOOR in my zone 5a winter. Message me if you are interested in donating to charity. Nurseries sell Austin for $60 per gallon to make a profit, but it costs THE SAME money and labor to produce a tiny rooting versus a gallon size. The difference is time & warm weather to grow a tiny rooting to a gallon size, plus good potting soil like Pro-mix (red bag sold at Walmart)....See MoreWhat new-to-you rose (or roses) are you most excited about for 2023?
Comments (101)While watching several videos on youtube of the beautiful David Austin display gardens, it was brought home to me how effective darker roses such as Princess Anne and James Galway were in breaking up expanses of the softer whites, yellows and pale pinks. Another device that made an impact is how the different sizes of the blooms were very effective in giving interest and movement in areas in which there were almost no companion plants. From tiny to quite large, each rose bloom played a part in a veritable symphony of colors and patterns, and that is something we could readily transfer to our own gardens. In my garden of a very few seven roses there is yet one with very small and delicate blooms, Darlow's Enigma (white), slightly larger blooms of Purple Skyliner, the very large blooms of Grandmother's Hat, deep pink and Dixieland Linda, pinkish apricot, and the slightly smaller blooms of Wild Edric, deep pink, Cl. Caroline Testout, lighter pink and Ginger Syllabub, golden apricot. Not so bad for such a small assortment!...See MoreDave5bWY
