About me: I work hard in my businesses to squeak by. Gardening is my mental health. Others call it an avocation. I call it the love of my life. Must have my hands in the dirt to be happy. Everything I do is an experiment, and great fun, tearing out sod to make beds, trying to amend the soil, learning to plant things that thrive in a variety of hostile conditions, moving things about and thinning things, ripping into weeds with a vengeance. Haven’t yet learned to make a garden that looks well set up, although the cottage-garden effect round the house is charming, and two composed beds look nice (out of many scattered throughout the property). Composting is joy. I’ve toyed with the idea of raising fiber-producing animals, but really prefer those owned by others. I’d rather keep my property in habitat and in gardens.
