About me: I am a wife and mother who has discovered how enjoyable it is to garden!..My husband put in the most beautiful multi level Koi/fishpond with five waterfalls, and a very long stream. There is a cedar bridge crossing over the stream... and a natural cedar half log serves as a walking bridge over lower pond. There is a rustic Flagstone patio overlooking the large upper pond.(the two ponds are separated by a narrow walking Pennisula..they both share the same water via waterfalls that circulate from one pond to the other) The majority of the pond border is finished using our areas native rocks and weathered forest wood. The stream and waterfall areas are growing natural moss and native wildflowers and shrubs. Since we put in the waterfeature, our yard has really become a virtual haven for many different species of birds..they come and bathe and frolick in the stream and chatter away in the trees:) Our pond has quite a few different aquatic plants-(including blooming Lotus and Waterlilys) and is home to colorful Koi(in the larger upper pond)..and Large Shubunkins and Sarassa comets live happily along with a few trophy sized Rainbow Trout in the lower pond. We originally had a grass lawn, but the ground squirrels and gophers took that over...so we decided to do a more naturalistic, woodland, forest type landscape instead. We put in lots of beautiful evergreens and deciduous trees around the property- including a small orchard of fruit trees in the backyard. We weedblocked the whole yard-front and back- and then added a thick layer of wood/bark mulch over that to create out "forest floor". Our goal being to have an easy to care for, weed free, and mostly drought tolerant landscape that is our relaxing and private Paradise here on earth!(pond and landscape is watered and maintained using reclaimed water) I have taken a special interest in Perennials, trees and shrubs- both evergreen and deciduous. I have SO many different gardening interests and ALOT to learn! I am looking forward to being able to participate in the many various forums...Happy Gardening!..May it bring you Peace and Blessings.....*GardenLove*
