About me: Ive been gardening off and on my whole life, and organically all my adult life. After moving around every few years, my husband and I finally have a permanent home with plenty of room for gardening. Im looking forward to putting all my scraps of experience and my copious armchair knowledge into real use.
My intent is to put most of my effort into providing the proper initial conditions for each plant, and mostly let nature take it from there. My idea of a good kitchen garden and orchard is one that includes flowers, shrubs, and water -- to provide food, drink, and shelter for the insects, birds, toads, etc., that pollinate my crops and eat the vegetable-eating bugs. (Those plants also provide berries and pleasant sights and aromas for me, of course.) A good thick year-round mulch conserves moisture, discourages weeds, and provides food for the earthworms that till and enrich the soil.

My zone is: Z5/6 Indiana
