Commented: pill bugs.Not sure what type you are growing, but in my limited experience, melons will normally only put out a few per vine, although you get tons of blossoms.

Commented: open spot - what would you plant?I vote bush beans too, and maybe some basil. Do you have flowers in your garden? I am loving how they attract the bees to mine...I think every garden deserves a few flowers.
Commented: Veggie questionsYou might have gotten some funny variety, but I've had bumpy crookneck before...as another response said, just don't let them get bigger than about 6-8 inches.
As for winter squash, I recommend Walth...
