About me: I grow in raised beds and containers, using 2" of composted horse manure as mulch that is tilled in and reapplied every spring and fall. This year, corn was planted 18 times closer than recommended (4" x 6") and yielded well.
I keep vermicomposting worm bins as coffee tables in my home. They love the corn silage and compost from the garden, as do the chickens.

Two good sources of free composted horse manure in SLC are the SLC carriage stables 1/2 block east of the North Temple Frontrunner station.
I prefer one year old aged horse manure / sawdust compost from:

I use plywood sideboards to double the load. Using a shredder when unloading it will make it much finer.
You can use my sideboards and rent my 8 hp shredder with a 1" discharge screen.
Salt Lake Valley nurseries use semi loads of their compost mixed with soil to create bulk garden soil.
Adding 2" of fresh compost, spring and fall as mulch will keep your garden in excellent condition and keep your shoes and knees clean.
