Parade of Homes

I just finished a house for the Utah County Parade of Homes so I figure now was as good of time as any to dust off my old blog. Over the next couple of weeks I'll be featuring pictures from the house and talking a little more about the project, but for now I'll just share with you a few of my favorite little spots in the home.

The Parade is still going through this Saturday so if you're interested in attending you can find the information here. My home is # 19.

Fall Furniture Sale!

Okay, So I've been a MAJOR blog slacker. Let's just say I've been perpetually buried under to do lists for the last 6 months. Exciting things, but things keeping me so busy, my blog just never quite makes it to the top of the list.

I came out of hiding to let you all know we are having a fabulous sale at my office this Friday, October 12 from 10 A.M. - 8 P.M. at my design studio, 3233 South 900 East. There will be loads of fantastic new furniture and home decor items that were hand picked by moi, and my studio mates Elizabeth Kimberly Design and Tracee G Design. There are items for every price point so if you're in the Salt Lake area, be sure to check it out.

I just may come out of hiding again this week to share with you photos from a recent project.

Hello There

It's been a long time. Let's just say the last couple of months have gotten the best of me. Between renovating my own basement, my normal client work, and the ins and outs of having two little ones at home, I haven't had much left for this blog.

There have been so many times in the last couple of months where I almost sat down to write a post, but I just didn't have it in me. But now, I think I do. And I'm ready to be back.

I guess a few updates are in order.

Basement is finished, but empty. I've been too busy to really think about and commit to what I want to do with a furniture, but a sofa is on it's way and things are starting to come together. It turned out exactly as I was hoping. Simple, clean, kid friendly, and just a few more details than you'd expect from the average basement. Wallpaper is getting installed this week so I'll share some pictures after that.

Business is good. I have some exciting new projects that I'll be sharing more about in the coming weeks. I feel so lucky to have such wonderful clients who share my vision and excitement for what we are doing in their homes. Some days, this is a stressful business, but even then it's pretty fabulous.

Perhaps most exciting is that I have photographs of a handful of recent client projects that I'm excited to share. Check back tomorrow for a room reveal. If you're still wondering what I'm up to,  you can catch me on instagram (@caitlincreer)

And thanks for sticking with me if you're still reading.

XOXO

Caitlin

Flood!

Hope your Easter weekend was better than mine.
Our Sunday was just lovely until my basement flooded! Not a pleasant surprise.
We've been on a verge of a basement renovation for about a year now
so I guess this is the push we need to bit the bullet and move forward with things.
I've actually been collecting ideas for a while on this pinterest board,
so although the timing isn't ideal, at least I'm prepared.

I'll be sharing some of my ideas for the basement later this week, but today,
here's a little sneak peek of a project I recently had photographed by Sara Bateman.
It's one of my favorites yet! I love the crispness of those linen wingbacks!

Tried and True: Kubu Chair

Do you ever see products on-line or on pinterest and think they look great, but wonder if the real deal is as good in person? It can be so disappointing to order something from the web, only to have it arrive and be less than what you hoped for and have to deal with the hassle of a return. Because of this, I've decided to start a new series on my blog called Tried and True where I feature products that I either have in my own home, or have used for clients that I would recommend to you.

First up, a Darling Kubu (or kooboo) wicker chair from Safavieh.
I just ordered a pair of these for my back porch to double as hostess chairs
for dining and accent seating when we're outside with the kids.
You might be rolling your eyes at the word wicker, but I happen to LOVE the gorgeous gray wash of kubu wicker and I know these are a piece I will have for years to come. Plus they can be just as chic indoors as they are for outside use, as evidenced by this gorgeous room styled by designer Jill Sharp Brinson as featured in House Beautiful

The chairs came yesterday and they were everything I've hoped for. Moderately comfortable,
a great size and height to be used with a dining table, and they are very sturdy
so the kids can climb all over them. Plus I love the swoop of the arm.

I purchased mine from Joss & Main, but they're also available from Overstock at a similar price.
I'm so excited for the temperature to warm up so I can actually use these outside.

I snapped a couple of pictures of them with another darling tried and true item I love, these darling navy polka dot pillows from Lands End. Doesn't the pillow look cute with the chair?

Single Bench Bar Stools

I get a RIDICULOUS number of e-mails asking about the bar stool bench
featured in the Spring Lane home I worked on last year.
I have been enamored with this concept of a bench stools for quite some time and when I first consulted on that house, I knew it would be the perfect spot to incorporate one. The gray striped bench stool I used was custom made by a local upholstery company and unfortunately is not available ready made(although Lee Industries makes a similar one) but today I have rounded up the best options around the web to share with you. But first a little inspiration:

Gorgeous natural modern kitchen with a brown geometric bench stool

Simple industrial gray kitchen with two white bench stools

In this simple white kitchen, I love the pop of yellow here!

And in this farmhouse kitchen designed by Mark J. Williams

And this classic kitchen with homey details

I Love them ALL!

I carefully selected only my favorites among the options of bench bar stools to include
in my little round up, but there quite a few options available on the web.
If you're up for a little DIY a handful of options (like this or this) would be darling dolled up
with a little slip-cover or recovered seat if you're looking to personalize your look.

Speaking of bar stool benches, check out this awesome Chiang Mai Dragon version available
for sale from Upcycled Home. They will custom make a bench like this in any fabric
of your choice, so if you're looking to go the custom route, keep them in mind.

Hope this helps all of you that have been sending me e-mails trying to track down this item.

Getting the look: Juxtaposition

I'm back with my promised post about getting the "Juxtaposition" look in your home
and I've got some fantastic finds to share with you.

I think the most crucial aspect to nailing this look is achieving a collected and layered aesthetic.
The overall aesthetic needs to feel simple but it should unfold as you spend more time in the space.
If in doubt, a good place to start is with tailored slipcovers in neutral colors and a seagrass rug.
If you work from there and layer in some interesting found objects and conversation pieces, you can't go wrong. I've rounded up a few key pieces to achieving this look,
and most of them are friendly to your pocketbook. A few of my favorites...

I'll let you know how my project inspired by Juxtaposition goes, we had a meeting last week to make fabric selections and we were right on track! I'm so excited about the direction we are headed with that project. My favorite part of my job is to take our vision, whatever it may be, and help client transform their home that reflects their tastes, personality, and history. Hopefully we can do just that in this current project.

Sneak Peek at a Recent Project

I had a few projects photographed last week and I just got a few of the images back from the photographer Sara Bateman. These bobbin chairs are one of my favorite pieces of furniture I've ever used in a project. They are by Motif Designs and the detail and finishes available are absolutely stunning! I did this pair for a client in a simple gray Pindler & Pindler tone on tone stripe. I'm excited to share more with you in the coming weeks.
