Even though the majority of wood furniture manufacturers have left North Carolina (to mostly overseas), there are a lot of upholstery manufacturers there and elsewhere in America. I’m partial to Lee Industries and The MT Company for their great quality. They have hardwood frames and 8-way hand-tied suspensions with a lifetime warranty on both. Even within American-made, quality can vary widely - do your research and buy the best you can afford. I have a list of American (mostly in North Carolina) upholstery manufacturers here on my blog.
You should know that these manufacturers do not sell directly to the consumer – you will have to find a retailer to purchase through. Use the retailer finder on their websites to find one near you (if there isn’t one near you, I can help with Lee or MT). As a small business owner I’m a little partial, but it’s better to find a smaller, local retailer instead of a big box store – you get more options and the salespeople tend to be more knowledgeable. Plus it makes you feel good to support small businesses.
P.S. Most of the sofas at RH are made overseas except for a few styles from American Leather which is based in Dallas.
