There are tulip bulbs to plant, World Series parties to plan (opening game is Oct. 24) and porch swings to rock on. Browse these six fall weekend ideas, then share what you’re up to in the Comments.
1. Clean those rain gutters. Once most of the leaves have fallen, it’s important to clean litter from gutters and downspouts around your house. Clogged gutters can cause rainwater (and later, snow) to pool and damage your roof. If your home has more than one story, or you don’t feel safe climbing a ladder to complete the task, hire someone to get the job done for you.

2. Cozy up your porch. Simple additions such as a wool blanket and pillows can make your front porch cozy and inviting, even when the weather turns brisk. Set out a pot of fall flowers or a few gourds for color, and boost evening ambiance with lanterns or string lights.

3. Get your viewing area ready for the first game of the World Series. Game 1 of the World Series is coming up on Tuesday, Oct. 24. If you’re planning to host a watch party, take some time to get ready this weekend. Prep some make-ahead snacks, and clear space for a crowd around the TV.

4. Check your landscape for fire safety. With destructive wildfires still burning in Northern California at this writing, fire safety is on many of our minds. Take some time this weekend to look over your property, and note changes that could be made to improve fire safety. Maintaining an area of defensible space cleared of dry brush and flammable materials immediately around your home will help firefighters protect your residence should you experience a fire in your area.

5. Plant bulbs for spring blooms. If you love tulips and other bulbs in the landscape, fall is the time to plant for spring displays.
If you live in a cold climate, October is typically a good time to plant; where winters are mild, you may need to chill some bulbs first and wait until December or January to put them in the ground.

6. Rotate mattresses and clear bedroom clutter. When was the last time you rotated your mattress or washed the mattress pad? If you can’t remember, it’s probably time to do it. Take a few moments to carry out any items that don’t belong in your bedroom, then vacuum well to keep dust and other allergens at bay.

Because of Houzz I've fallen in love with my house again. Every once in a while I get side tracked and lose focus. This weekend I'm going to start focusing on Thanksgiving prep and fall details. I know the malls seemed to have moved right on to Christmas, but I'm going to concentrate on Thanksgiving. Getting my tablescapes together and fall décor so that my dinner with guests of maybe up to 20-25 people will go off without too many blemishes. Never to early to start.
GO DODGERS:)
We are having a 'prepare for a very bad fire event day' here tomorrow at Cliff House. After what happened in Santa Rosa its no laughing matter. My husband wants to stay and help save the structures, but I plan to leave. Of course if its over 48 miles an hour winds, then, he will leave too. THAT is the agreement. We are going to connect all our 9 hoses to jet style nozzles and continue the continual weed and tree trimming.
