Bedroom Seating Areas: The Perfect Retreat
If the day is hectic, then the evening should embrace a moment of calm, and a restful bedroom can provide the perfect retreat. Including a comfortable seating area within the room can offer a wonderful place to catch up on reading or to have a conversation with a loved one.
With a thoughtful furniture layout, creating a seating area can be accomplished not only in larger bedrooms but small ones as well. I recently completed a redesign of our master bedroom, which measures a scant 15' x 12', and managed to slip in a gorgeous settee where an armoire once stood housing only an old TV. We don't miss the TV and are enjoying having a comfortable lounging area in the room!

A seating area created in a bay window is ready for relaxation. With a lamp for light in the evenings, a table to set a book or drink on and an ottoman placed in front of one chair, this is a spot to get comfortable in.
What an interesting mix of styles and pieces in this bedroom, which not only includes a seating area, but one that faces a fireplace flanked by gorgeously detailed windows. The bronze toned grasscloth is perfect with the brass light fixture, while small accents of orange enliven the design.
This San Francisco bedroom is appealing with its multitude of windows and the masculine feel of the design. A wood framed leather chair is the perfect choice for this room, providing a spot to slip on one's shoes.
A simple seating arrangement set in front of a window fits the tailored elegance of this room. The single light fixture, wood plank ceiling and blue walls all appear to shimmer, creating a very appealing environment.
In this bedroom a built-in console separates the sleeping area from a sitting area in a large master suite. It's interesting that room was made to set yet another chair at the foot of the bed, creating an intimate seating area for late night conversations.
Placing a smaller sofa at the foot of the bed is a great way to arrange furniture to accommodate a seating area in a bedroom.
Here is another example of a sofa placed at the foot of a bed, with a full seating area created around it. Both this and the previous bedroom showcase the most stunning light fixtures as well as soothing color palettes.
Grasscloth in a deep gray blue sets the stage for this dramatic bedroom, creating a backdrop to all the blue elements. Apart from the chair providing seating next to the window, my favorite aspect of this design are the tall mirrors hung behind each lamp, visually extending and illuminating the room.
I don't know if anyone actually ever sits in this chair, but it works here, suggesting a conversation is in progress.
