Houzz Tour: Los Gatos modern rustic renovation
This great modern rustic renovation, by Mark English Architects, was designed for a young woman with lots of pets and an interest in design, photography and history.
Many of you had already discovered the house's kitchen and saved its photos in your ideabooks. It's time to explore the rest of this gorgeous house.
Goal
To give the soulless existing home a "history" in which different portions of the house seem to have been completed at different times.
Architectural Details
Entry: the in-fill entry addition is presented as the point of origin. A simple rectangular barn-like volume with a gable roof and reclaimed heavy timber interior structure, the entry mass is sheathed in reclaimed redwood board and batten barn siding.
Kitchen: the kitchen block of the existing house is sheathed in re-used limestone fieldstone and heavy timber lintels, presented as a later addition.
The remainder of the house: The house is sheathed with 3" lap siding, presented as the final building phase.
We're loving the barn-like architechural features as well as the beautiful popping colors.
