I wanted to post my experience here with Pottery Barn sofas and Basset.
I have had the Pearce Roll Arm in Performance Suede with wrapped down cushions for ten years. This sofa has gone through hell with adults spilling things, grandkids sticky and chocolate foodstuff, their drinks, four white dogs (three Westies and a Great Pyrenees) sitting on it constantly with their white hair, LICKING the hell out of it while they lick their paws (the Great Pyrenees left a HUGE water mark the other day), dirty wet dogs climbing on it, kids jumping on it, being moved from room to room, washed with the rug cleaner about 50 times, and it STILL looks as good as the day we bought it. The cushions have not flattened in the least, every stain comes right off, water marks from dogs disappear, it cleans right up and looks fabulous. Maybe the color has changed slightly from so much washing, but it is not torn ANYWHERE. The only downside is that the dogs sat so much on the back cushions we had to (after 7 years) re-stuff them, but I didn't like how they looked, so I bought several 26x26 pillows (with removable covers to wash) to line the back with smaller pillows out front. Otherwise, it is still in excellent shape.
We plan to put our Pottery Barn leather sofa bought 5 years ago and also in great shape with the down cushions in the room where the suede one is, put that one in the basement, and get a performance velvet for the TV room where the leather is. They say that the Performance Velvet is just as durable as the suede, and the leather is fabulous; I just use leather shiner on it when I remember. We used to buy Basset furniture, and while the frames held up, one damask did not and I had to recover it, eventually giving it to a friend. I also bought a Basset with thick corduroy that my daughter now has (it has gone through THREE daughters besides us at 20 years old) and is still in great condition (except of course for the cushions, but that's, again, the dogs' fault).
I read the review posted somewhere about this particular material from PB who had dogs and kids like us, and they said the same thing, so I bought it.
