6 Ways to Make the Most of the Weekend
Tapping into summer means slowing down, digging in and hanging out with friends
Whether it’s hosting a game night or savoring a perfect heirloom tomato, keep things simple this weekend and enjoy activities that capture the essence of summer. These six “could-dos” — which include just a couple of small tasks — can help you make the most of your weekend.
2. Straighten up the entryway. Summer gear getting a little out of hand? Bring in a few extra baskets or bins to corral stray items. If things that belong elsewhere keep ending up in the entry, consider earmarking one bin for “go backs” and make a point of emptying it regularly.

3. Host a game night. Whether it’s a casual, family-only affair or an excuse to gather with a bunch of friends, a game night can be a refreshing change of pace from usual weekend routines. Make a simple dinner, put on some music, pull out your favorite games and start playing.

4. Savor an heirloom tomato. Tomato lovers know we’re just getting into the best part of the season. Drop by your farmers market or farm stand to find heirloom tomatoes fresh off the vine. Later in the season, if you have a glut of tomatoes in your backyard, you may want to make a big batch of sauce. But the first tomatoes deserve special treatment, and simple is often best. Try a tomato and fresh mozzarella salad scattered with fresh basil leaves and drizzled with olive oil. Or go for that Southern favorite, the tomato sandwich (on good white bread with mayo and crunchy sea salt).

5. Pin your travels on a map. This quick weekend project doubles as planning tool and decor. Put up a map (of the country or the world) and start pinning away. Color-code the pins, with each person in the house represented by his or her own color for solo trips, another color for trips taken as a family, and another that marks the places you hope to visit next.
6. Do less. Feel like the summer is zipping by too quickly? Take a look at your calendar and see what you might be able to delegate, cancel or let go of in the next week. Once you’ve freed up some time, don’t rush to fill it. Living life at a slower, more intentional pace will help you savor each moment of these summer days.
