Join us as we celebrate Mother’s Day with a series on mother-daughter duos in the design world.
Team: Mother Linda Riddiough, in front, interior designer at Lauren Nicole Designs in Charlotte, North Carolina, and daughter Lauren Clement, in back, owner and lead designer
Time working together: 11 years
Design roots: Lauren switched career paths from psychology to interior design after a severe car accident. “I was laid up at home and really thinking through my life goals and plans, and just knew that I needed to do something more creative, hands-on, active and artistic,” she says. Linda also went into interior design because she wanted to be in a creative field. She worked on Capitol Hill for many years but knew it wasn’t for her.
Inspiration: Lauren knows her mom inspired her career, but she never felt pushed into it. “I think she wanted me to find my own way, and by letting me arrive at this decision on my own, it made working together so easy,” she says.

Favorite project: A whole home in Charlotte. It let the duo incorporate their favorite elements: patterns and bold colors.
Funniest moment: Once, at 2 a.m., they were trying to find the last, elusive fabric to complete a client’s design. “We had searched and gone through fabrics many, many times,” Linda says. “Finally, at the exact same time, both of us yelled, ‘I found it!’ When we both stood up and looked at one another, we had the exact same fabric in our hands.”
