AFTER: Some updates were made to the original built-in cabinet. A magenta linoleum counter was revealed when the most recently installed white Formica countertop was removed. It's believed that the original counter was wood and the linoleum was added at a later time. The counter's metal edging was in great condition, so the magenta counter was restored with a new sheet of linoleum, Marmoleum Walton Cirrus 3352 Berlin Red.
AFTER: The only aspect of the kitchen that has not changed here is the door on the left, which opens to the new kitchen. The appliance walls were stripped to create a mudroom to the right, a partial wall in the middle to box out the new closet, and the built-in cabinet is to the left. A bench was built where the sink used to be. The original kitchen appliance wall was replaced with back-to-back storage: a shallow closet in the mudroom and a deeper pantry with green doors behind it, which faces the new kitchen on the other side of this wall.
AFTER: The slab soapstone sink is between the two windows where the office desk used to be. The closet to the left was removed to make space for the counter and cabinets. All lighting fixtures are from Rejuvenation: Baldwin pendants centered on each window, Brooklyn chandelier over the island and Ford's Mill sconce over the sink. The finish is Old Brass.
AFTER: The faucet is an Annapolis bridge faucet model # 6200 by Waterstone in chocolate. The color relates to the oil rubbed bronze finish of the range hood and the antique bronze push button light switches. A Miele dishwasher is located to the left of the sink. Trash and recycling is in the cabinet to the right of the sink.
AFTER: The Subzero refrigerator stands where the office closet used to be. Years ago, the closet was built over the original location of the two green pantry doors. In the adjoining Great Room, this original doorway is concealed by a bookshelf built into the cased door opening where the television resides.
This display of beautiful Porteous Art Nouveau tiles is over the doorway to the Great Room. Porteous Tile, New Zealand: http://porteoustiles.co.nz/art-nouveau-tiles/art-nouveau-tiles.htm. Dard Hunter is a U.S. source for Porteous tiles. They also sell the handsome oak frame, which holds three 6"x6" tiles. http://www.dardhunter.com
AFTER: The lovely leaded glass door echos the leaded glass sidelights flanking the home's main door. Door and drawer hardware are antique bronze. The NOS (new old stock) steel bin pulls, the Massey door pulls and large oval knobs were all from Rejuvenation.
BEFORE: Behind the wall is the door to the old kitchen. The left door, wall and right closet were removed. The back wall now houses the pantry and doorway to the butler pantry.
AFTER: The green doors are original to the home and were brought out of storage to serve as pantry doors. The lace panels are Bell Flower by Cooper Lace. The middle door leads to the new butler pantry and mudroom. The right door opens to the Great Room, which was furnished by Linda Stimson of Inner Vision Interiors. The Great Room is featured in her Houzz Ideabook: https://www.houzz.com/projects/1016122/acton-craftsman-cottage
AFTER: The pantry is outfitted with commercial kitchen shelving, storing all canned and packaged products in one convenient location. The wall color in the kitchen and hallway to the bathroom is Benjamin Moore HC-39 Putnam Ivory.
AFTER: The old hallway to the bathroom was removed by taking down a wall on the left, opening up space for the kitchen. The two counter chairs are Shaker Workshop's Weaver's chairs in olive/black stripe woven tape. Although the island is sized for one seat, two of these compact chairs fit nicely facing each other.
BEFORE: The old bathroom's most unexpected features were a too-narrow linen closet and a floodlight over the shower.
AFTER: Lili Versailles Cement tile was installed in the bathroom, laundry, mudroom and butler pantry. It measures 8" x 8" x 5/8" and each tile weighs 3 lbs.
AFTER: New bathroom floor.
AFTER: Bathroom tile design for toilet and sink walls.
AFTER: The bathroom was tiled with Lili's Versailles patterned cement tile on the floor and Equipe Equcor ivory tiles on the wall. New fixtures and finishes throughout. I love the storage chest, the Cape Cod Locker by Authentic Models. The toilet is by Toto, the sink is a St. Thomas Neo Venetian pedestal sink, both in white.
AFTER: The Jordan Valley double pendant lighting fixture is by Rejuvenation. The medicine cabinet was refinished, the framed beveled mirror is by Dard Hunter Studios. The walls in the bathroom and adjoining laundry room are painted with Benjamin Moore HC-38 Decatur Buff.
AFTER: Bathroom tile design for shower.
AFTER: Expanded shower is tiled up to the ceiling with Equipe tile. We opted not to install glass doors, preferring the more vintage look, simplicity and ease of use of a shower curtain.
AFTER: New cement tile design for foyer and breakfast room. Lorraine tile by Lili is bordered with a black border and red solid tile in a rug configuration in each room.
AFTER: Lili Tile's Lorraine, installed in the foyer and breakfast room.
BEFORE: The enclosed porch rooms, the foyer and breakfast room, had a rubber composite tile set in a diamond and checkerboard pattern that was original to the 1911 home. This photo shows the foyer.
AFTER: Foyer with new flooring.
AFTER: Foyer from the breakfast room.
AFTER: Foyer from the door on the outside porch.
BEFORE: The breakfast room faces east. See original tile and the massive field stone walls. While mainly brown and tan, we believe the tile faded from its original green, tan and red color. We found uncut original tiles under one of the built-in cabinet drawers.
AFTER: Breakfast room with new flooring.
BEFORE: The breakfast room faces east on the left and south towards the garage. A built-in cabinet is to the right.
AFTER: Breakfast room with new flooring.
AFTER: Breakfast room.
