Using Boxes to Clean Up Clutter and Inspire Creativity
These different boxes have made me realize how useful boxes can be in a home. They are functional. They may be decorative. And they can be sentimental. Used to put clutter out of sight and add a new dash of decor to a room or closet, boxes can be interesting and appealing.
I think boxes of all kinds are great. Expensive antique boxes or jeweled glass boxes are stand-alone pieces in a room. Matching sets of boxes can bring chaos to places like closets and offices. And beautiful boxes that replace standard boxes (such as mail boxes or window boxes) can bring a sense of playful creativity to an every day item. Below are different boxes and ways to use them in your home design.
When you're buying things that already come in their own boxes, think about whether or not the box will be useful once the item within it is all used up. I love this stationery set. However, what I really love is the cute box that could be re-used once the stationery is gone. I'd keep it open on a counter to show off that great yellow design, maybe using it as a place to toss the day's mail or store my keys.
Boxes are also great in a home office or art space. You can store all of the things that you need in an easy-to-access way while keeping the room clean and comfortable to work in. A series of same-shaped boxes like those on the shelf here bring a sense of control to the room which helps to heighten productivity.
Boxes are really great in closets. They can be used to store almost anything from your smallest accessories to your largest hats. (You can also hide secret things like love letters in them and no one in your house will think about peeking in and finding them!) I think a well-organized closet is a great start to a clutter-free home and clothing boxes definitely help with that.
Another type of box is the windowbox. These boxes (along with the boxes used in indoor container gardenings) come in a variety of colors and textures. What you pay the most attention to is usually whatever is grown in the box but don't neglect the design of the box itself when choosing a box for gardening!
