Farmhouse IS Home, Decorating Planning 2017
We are moving home, home always at our farm of 25 years, where our family lived, gathered, with others as well, and though we have lived in several places, and have been through changes, it still has always been home, with our nearby beloved Chapel Hill, our family in Va., now and scattered from Md., to N. C., as well- now we wait to position ourselves to create this space in a new yet classic way with elements from our original home and furnishings, art, and gardens. We are not adding, we are re-creating some, well a lot if we are blessed and sell our beach house! A lot is involved. Priorities are being set, dreams listed, my mind pictures things before they are even surrounding us.
I also have a lot of strong support and Faith from my God, my sweet Jim, children Patrick, now with his Lisa , and our son James, along with many friends peppered throughout the local areas of Chapel Hill, Saxapahaw, Durham, Raleigh, Carrboro/Chapel Hill township, and Wilmington, Wrightsville Beach, and our sweet Shamrock’s home at Masonboro Yacht Club and Boatworks, just a couple of hours from the farm.
It’s a sweet place to be, and many have told this also to me. I would love to be able to draw everyone in, through our place that will be a natural home that is full of light, energy, air, and spaces for it to flow… filled with love and peace that seems to always come. The land is of the earth, we do not own our land, it is a gift, our home as well…..just as it was for the ancient Nomadic Indians who left their lives’ evidence through our finds of the everlasting arrowheads, made from quartz, dark stone, tool pieces:evidence they were here as surely as we are now. It’s the hill. The rolling hills and valleys that surround this vantage point of energy and safety. It’s home.

Visualize reversing stairwell/stairs direction, opening stairwell w/ new stairs, railing, using existing wall interior of J's room as this back wall of stairwell already, now have opening to center hall in house which as-is now leading to all rooms of house/bedrms,hall bath,kitchen,l.rm. would become open w/ more light, space,in l.room, 2nd floor w/open hall, private bath, office
A radical change like this could open up an entire area in a smaller house like the farmhouse, incorporating wood. Invision minimal space/stairsteps & risers both more substantial in hadwood, opening into our space by either reversing present staircase to similar plan facing front door entrances so within living area/great room, provides more space beneath into the general living area, using now-unsusable space existing in bedroom as-is. Could even open up wall at base of stairwell where pine-paneled room is i(n front E facing side of house) now a closed/doored room.
bookcases on either side or one, of our fireplace, paint white- it's brick. We have had this room w/ furniture that worked well, even for an average sized space, and want to take out a wall that exists to the rights side of this photo- to dining room
From a blog I adore, White Farmhouse, this is Liz M., her photo shows choice of stained hard pine flooring, some she painted, but here is example- looks better in purpose. Would like this type of wood flooring as we had it, stained, at our beach house and it's great for any room
Lighting bed-side sconce type, w/ arm to extend and bring in closer; takes up less room!
A bit overwhelming for our area but LOVE the use of white, columns, bookcases around the hearth painted white, adding a mantel.
Love white cabinets, also have seen similar pulls and adore them. Island is very cool, and want hardwood floors. Nice to have at least some storage being w/ glassed cabinet fronts, The look is farmhouse w/ contemporary style, as well!
love the beneath mounted television area; we looked at doing 3, separate doored and open custom built sections that appeared to be all one piece built in! I wanted sliding doors, LP sections, hidden wires, and places for different things, as well. This is very attractive. I also like white hearth, mantle, and large mirror over it; beautiful along w/ wall treatment different styles but same white all over. Similar to our front farmhouse room and we do want paint!
Beneath our stairs is un-explored territory; the idea of baring it, using for storage that is attractive is great. I also think often the space is such that it becomes a new space like a office, or closet space.
Bookcases, cozy yet not crowded space; shades with softness of curtains
Like stone and the space left to add plantings which here are gorgeous with option space for annuals adding seasonal color
Training this I'm guessing but looks like the beautiful slow growing thus controllable fragrant white English Jasmine- idea : is it's a good choice along a privacy-desired area
❤️ love this stone
Nice path using large stones, love how wall
Love the bead board and ceiling fan
Brick walkway is not a good idea as a permanent solution for a brick farmhouse that is mowed weekly half of the year, though badly in need of work on this front entrance- possibly some railing, columns
Clean look, like the hardwoods, lighting in ceiling, neutrals, area rug draws furniture grouping together, nice
will be great like this
This is a dream photo that excites me thinking of having this simplicity in our bedroom, finding a platform bed w/ mounted bedside lighting - love the neutral, prefer white and tans over greys, black is a good touch, too
Our bank of these from our contractor's keen eye in Ikea, his skills to connect a wall of these sets of drawers for our beach closet, using space well, room beneath for shoes as he cut the bases, connected them through beautifully placed inlaid wood- I would love to have even a small area like this in our bedroom closet!
Floors again! I long to do justice for our farmhouse starting with having hardwoods in kitchen, all over house except in tile laundry room and bathrooms. Also love above ceiling spots, and white kitchen idea, island, perhaps diff. design
love this hardwood floor color, wide planks
Flooring
Vintage and the use of neutrals enhances the simplicity and charm of the times past
Having a wall of photographs and/or art using black, white, and have a photograph like one of these with my grandfather during WWII
I think I have one but it's not the one with my grandfather in it- sis has it though
Since I love adding vintage pieces , I notice the ones that are like my own like the fan which is operational, for the purpose of mixing past & contemporary
Daybed for versatile use, makes into a good overnight sleeping bed in the office/downstairs room
African Mud cloth, restoration hardware, other sources etsy, and worth hunting down
Books stacked anywhere are an enhancement of the space
Lol love in wood unpainted like when at my childhood home it held albums
We have one similar (in beautiful original wood) , can figure out if for a closet, see how things fit as mine has better open area below so could rebuild inside for hanging space. Also other areas to consider its use
Can find ones that sell for less; love details here though
The former used as computer center. 3 drawers on right with deep shelves can change height of spa e there;
Variety of space and shelves available
Details- sideways
Wire and glass top cabinets can be changed to opaque.
