Cut yourself some slack. You are not a pro, didn't hire one, and ended up with a new kitchen that isn't perfect but is totally workable and beautiful.
Consider an oval pedestal table parallel to the outside wall towards the living room end of your kitchen. Use a bench (try store bought before building) and two ghost, or minimally visible, chairs. When seating four, pull the table slightly away from the wall. Push it back when you are done.
Remember, every stunning wedding reception is made of folding tables disguised with cloths. I used folding tables in my old studio apartment for elegant 12 person sit down dinners.
Excuse my terrible drawing.
