I want to share this podcast:

I'm only 1/2-way through, but she explains the relationship between loss of estrogen and muscle as we age, and how it impacts our insulin levels and weight gain. I thought the explanation was helpful, especially with regard to some of the discussions in last week's thread.
I follow some health and wellness influencers on IG, and there's a bit of a war going on now, much of it around women in peri/menopause, hormone fluctuations, and how we are an under-studied group by the medical community. I think the podcast above compensates a lot, at least for my understanding. I also appreciated her explanation of how calories differ, and how they are managed differently by our bodies.
I had lunch yesterday with a friend who's a dietician. I wasn't coming to him for advice, but he's a health nut, so we always end up discussing food. He noted again that medical school curriculum is sorely lacking in a nutrition education. Food is something we consume every day and has a direct impact on our bodies and health. Yet it takes a back seat in medical training. I've had a number of doctors over the years, and none have addressed diet with me.
With that, I'm continuing to focus on strength training and muscle. With diet, I have found that eating at least 5 different vegetables and around 80-90 g protein each day is an effective foundation. My protein is rotating between quinoa and beans, chicken, fish, eggs, nuts and some dairy. On occasion, I'll have a whey protein shake, but it's usually just a lazy meal for me.
It's sunny here today! I'm going to the gym, and walking afterward to listen to the remainder of the podcast above.
Have a good week, all you beautiful people!
