Street Smart: Pretty in Pink, Black, and Polka Dot
Borrow a style from a Brooklyn salon to achieve your own version of classic glam
Here's a peek at one of my favorite secret places in New York City. At Tease Salon, a tiny salon down on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, my girl Margie has been working miracles on my hair for years. The salon has been recently made over with a fresh coat of paint and a combination of pink, black and polka dots —making it my ultimate girly retreat. There's something so polished and glam about glossy blacks with black-and-white polka dots and a chic pink hue. Here are a mix of finds inspired by this salon's classic, feminine style.
Simple roll-arm sitting chair
I'm guessing this easy chair is totally out of my budget (since the price isn't even listed on the site — always a bad sign!), but I can't help crushing on it. It's the perfect balance of comfort and chic with the feminine mix of black-and-white polka dot fabrics.
Doily tidbit plate
Another word for pale pink is blush. Another place to use this tidbit plate is in the bedroom — I'd set it on my nightstand for my jewelry and watch. It adds a sweet pop of pink.
Park Lane ceramic jar from Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams
This white lacquer container by Mitchell Gold & Bob Williams could work in any room. Like the perfect lip gloss, a shiny white accent piece is a polished little pick-me-up.
Kate Spade Larabee Road black accent plate
Kate Spade adds a distinctly feminine spin to many preppy patterns, including the classic polka dot. Here, dinnerware gets turned up a notch with a simple black-and-white design that's spot-on chic.
Calamine Paint
Farrow & Ball is one of my go-to favorite paint lines and their spin on pale pink is a winner. If my husband allowed pink in our home, this would be my pick for the walls.
Tip: Pink is a color that can easily look fleshy (in a bad way) if you choose the wrong shade for your space. Be sure to try out samples on the wall prior to buying your gallon — and check out your color picks at different times of day as light dramatically changes the look of a color.

Doily placemat
This black doily pattern placemat would be the perfect complement for a dining room painted in pale pink.
Edie velvet chaise in fuschia
A chaise shaped like this pink velvety one is often called a fainting sofa (doesn't get much girlier than that). It reminds me of old black-and-white films with ladies done up to the nines.
Retro desk phone
This glossy black phone is so retro and fun. I could see it working well in the salon's newly made-over space.
