A Cozy Home for One
I like the idea of hanging a robe over the bed for Victoria's bedroom, too (or a quilt) but for her it needs to be something bright to liven up that huge expanse of brick. Maybe a cotton haori ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/Japanese-Kimono-Mens-Happi-Haori-Festival-SHINSENGUMI-Blue-Free-size/323583599168 ) or a quilt with a bold pattern ( https://www.ebay.com/itm/HAWAIIAN-wall-hanging-QUILT-blanket-handmade-100-hand-quilted-appliqued-C-BLUE/163615462549?hash=item26183dd495:g:xRAAAOSwi3xb8MDg , )https://www.ebay.com/itm/HAWAIIAN-QUILT-wall-hanging-baby-blanket-handmade-100-hand-quilted-applique-42/113676588651?hash=item1a77a7166b:g:eH0AAOSwa9FbDGNK ?
This design/build company (Brilliant SA) is in Vic's neighborhood. Their design, shown here, is areasonable use of a compact laundry space. It looks nice and clean, but note that there is no hanging space for laundry and it doesn't seem to include even a small dryer. The Fern Hill Road laundry is so small that I think the only solution is converting to a front loading washer, so that the laundry sink and bench over the washer can become one integrated benchtop like they are here. Then the dryer gets mounted on the wall over the washer, as high as Vic can comfortably reach. If (when!) the dishwasher moves to the kitchen, there would be space for either a small broom closet (like they have here) or a narrow upright freezer.
One possibility for the tall urns near the front entry. This picture shows a large-scale agave, a low-growing filler of blue chalk sticks (Senecio mandraliscae), and orange-flowering parrot’s beak (Lotus maculatus, zones 9 to 11) for a hit of color. Alternatively, you could use a succulent like an aeonium, a low-growing filler such as stonecrop (Sedum spp.) and a bright accent such as hot-orange blanketflower (Gaillardia spp.) or lime-green ‘Angelina’ stonecrop (S. rupestre‘Angelina’).
In case Vic ever gets a cat, says the sister. (But Houzz doesn't ship to Aus, says the mum!)
Bedside tables integrated into nooks in the adjacent shelving units.
Something like this could work on either side of Vic's bed.
The built out headboard/ledge is a very nice touch. It adds the functionality of side tables, provides coziness, and makes the big bed really look like it fits in what could be a very small room. Not a huge fan of the sconces --they're pretty, but they don't provide practical reading light for the bed and you'd have to stand up to turn them off.
Another look that would soften that big brick wall behind the bed.
Like the three prints in different colorways. Very cheerful without being busy.
Not sure I like the pendant lights, but the cabinets flanking the bed are practical and make the room feel tall and airy. Combine with a Malm lift bed to maximize storage. (I do think the corners of the side shelves are too high and/or sharp --a headache waiting to happen!)
Mix of prints on bed and crisp white headboard. The headboard looks like painted Anaglypta or tin panels. Painted Anaglypta (raised wallpaper) would be a lot warmer than tin!
Better than coffee table.
Fridge-oven capsule separates kitchen from living area. No pantry; staple storage is in deep drawers next to the left of cooktop.
The Ikea shelves and racks add interest to the wall as well as making items immediately accessible.
Petite peninsula seating just two is a nice idea.
I like the way the banquette fills the allotted space, which both maximizes the seating and the feeling of cozy.
Bench seating along the wood paneled wall in the dining area would make the most of the space. If Vic likes this idea, drawers or a lift lid could add some storage, too.
Window-framed banquette.
With an expandable Ikea Bjursta round table, this would be perfect for everyday breakfast and expandable for larger parties. Like the floating construction of the seats.
Might work for Vic's dinning
I'm liking the lemon white as a bedroom color, with something like the surfboard yellow behind the wardrobes.
