Bath Details: Clever Ways to Stash Your Towels
A repurposed boat oar, a magazine rack and a row of spigots are some of the ingenious designs for keeping towels handy
Choosing new fixtures, tiles and vanities are among the most common decisions people make when updating a bathroom. Finding a new way to stash your towels might not even make your refresh list, but perhaps it should. Stylish towel storage can have a dramatic impact on your bathroom decor. Here are 10 innovative ways to hang and store bathroom towels to get you started.
1. Spigots. This stylish Lake Tahoe home raises the bar for rustic charm. The master bathroom features a towel rack made out of vintage water spigots. The shape of the spigots is well-suited for draping a towel over.
2. Ropes. Sometimes your towel mounts can be tailored to the room’s overarching theme. Hanging linens by a nautical rope is perfectly fitting for this maritime-inspired powder room, especially atop coastal blue wainscoting and a porthole mirror.
3. Boat oars. This Hawaii bathroom features a towel rack fashioned out of an old boat oar. Since boat oars are made out of water-resistant woods, hanging a wet towel from them makes sense.
4. Filing cabinets. Many different types of furniture can work well to store bathroom towels, from dressers to roll-top desks to this old periodical filing cabinet that was once used to store newspapers.
6. Pipes. If you live in a converted warehouse or loft, you might have some exposed pipes running through your bathroom that you can already use to hang towels from. If not, a floating wall shelf with pipes attached underneath is a great way to hang towels and add an industrial touch to a modern bathroom.
7. Magazine racks. If you like the look of rolled-up towels, a magazine rack can be a stylish way to display them. This teak magazine rack is ideal for a bathroom because it will hold up well to water.
8. Wire baskets. Talk about your industrial bathrooms, this Texas loo not only features a pair of wire baskets for storing towels, it also includes a custom vanity that has been fashioned out of a Craftsman tool cabinet.
9. Old crates. If you’ve ever walked into an antique store, you’ve probably seen an assortment of vintage crates. People use them to store a variety of items, but consider adding one to your bathroom to house a stack of freshly folded towels.
10. Bookshelves. Designer Nicole Lanteri added this vertical metal bookshelf to a bathroom project and loaded it up with towels. It’s a great way to add extra storage to a tight corner.
