I completely disagree with calling the brick the elephant in the room or a pig. The problem isn't so much the brick, is that the rest of the choices don't play well with the brick, especially not the marble (marble-like?) counters and splash -- it's a style mis-match. If the room were done in a rustic or farmhouse style, that brick would fit right in and look terrific.
ETA: Removing the cabinets from the brick enclave, adding brick to the entire interior of it or a very neutral paint, and getting a "meaty" hood that visually stands up to the brick would completely change the look of that area and make it a feature. Then you can re-evaluate what to do with the rest of the cabinets and countertop. But yea, if you do nothing else, at least get RID of the cabinets in that enclave.
