Pet of the Week: Fenway the Dog Mixes Work and Play
This border collie adds fun to a home remodeling project when he’s not busy in the show ring or backyard training park
Fenway is a dog with many interests and talents, including playing on the beach and competing in agility contests.
On the work site: Fenway likes to watch the progress of the in-law suite the Coblyns are adding to a home they inherited on Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts. In this in-progress shot, Fenway checks out the new flooring. The Coblyns chose wide vinyl planks made by NuCore because they matched the home’s beachy feel and were durable enough to stand up to sand, water and an active dog. When the project is complete, it will include a cook’s kitchen, great room, bedroom and laundry room.
Anytime someone comes to the worksite, Fenway is the first to greet them, Pam says. He also barks to alert everyone of deliveries or visitors. “He also will quietly patrol the job and watch what everyone is up to as if they are his flock of sheep,” Pam says.

Break time: Fenway is always ready to play with his beloved green ball, Pam says. He loves to play fetch with anyone who wants to take a break and get some exercise with him. He’s had this ball since he was 7 months old.

Time to train: In the backyard of the home, Fenway has an agility park aptly called Fenway’s Park. Here, he practices on equipment that includes this A-frame made by Adam Hayes, who is also the contractor on the Coblyns’ in-law addition. Hayes built the A-frame from teak and birch left over from another construction site.
Fenway also has weave poles and jumps to help him train for American Kennel Club competitions. In 2014, he made the top 10 in the nation in the Rally Excellent class.
The dog show champion loves to train and compete in AKC agility, obedience and rally events at the highest levels, the Coblyns say. He has lots of rosettes and ribbons and loves the attention.
