Living George Jetson Style
When decorating and renovating our homes, the changes we make always need to provide great function and usability, especially in rooms like the kitchen, bath and laundry. It wouldn’t be much fun if we found our design looked great but functioned poorly, right?
Since I'm a firm believer in having my cake and eating it, too, I get so excited when I'm turning the pages of houzz and I come across innovative design that’s not only beautiful, but really works. We’ve all become accustomed to amazing advances and cutting technology in electronics and the cars we buy, but when our homes begin feeling a little Jetsonian…now that really gets my attention.
Did you know they have even come out with one of those people-mover tube thingies for the home…how’s that for a technical term? Actually, they are called, “pneumatic vacuum elevators" and they are being installed in homes today. One day we’ll all be zipping from the upstairs to the downstairs to the garage via vacuum tubes.
In the meantime, while we wait our chance to live like the Jetsons…let’s check out some of the unexpected and innovative designs currently being employed in homes today.

This home has that futuristic feel to me. I half expect to see a space craft parked out on the driveway...imagine carpool in one of those. Isn't the view out that wall of windows just breathtaking! If it's this beautiful in a photo, I can't imagine how wonderful this must be in person.
Here's a broader view of the room with the fireplace that's suspended in the center...amazing! The style of the furniture completes the "Back To the Future" feel.
And here is how the home looks at night from the outside. Do you think that's a Butterfly roof...the design Becky wrote about in a recent Ideabook?
This staircase has that futuristic feel...almost as if the steps might move like an escalator taking you to the top. Love the open feel and how little space they take up in this room.
I love the infinity pools that literally seem to go on forever. This one gives the illusion of the pool blending right into the ocean beyond.
Here's another amazing pool with heart stopping views.
Forget everything you know and have seen about wine cellars. Welcome to the future. Check this baby out...absolutely amazing! It appears the door is mounted right into the kitchen floor so when you need a bottle of wine, just open the door and step right in. The bottles are lined up all along the walls. Wow!
Every high-tech home needs a hidden stairway...has to be mandatory in my book! :)
Media rooms have been on the cutting age for years and this one is no exception. The screen lowers when you're ready to watch a movie and your unassuming family room becomes a beautiful home theater. There's even surround sound with the speakers completely hidden from view in the stonework.
Imagine reclining in a nice hot bath while catching your favorite show. But wait, isn't that a mirror at the end of the tub? Yes, it is...but it's a sneaky two-way mirror with the t.v. hidden behind it and only visible when in use. Very cool!
Are you a big "Bat Man" fan? With today's innovative construction, you could have your very own bat cave!
Love the Jetson feel this home has with the round doorways sleek, white interior.
