A new approach. Waltar, who has degrees in computer science and music, collaborated with architect Emory Baldwin to open FabCab in 2010. The company name is a riff on the phrase fabulous cabin. The firm takes a novel approach to residential design: FabCab architects meet with clients to create custom plans for eco-friendly structures that encourage healthy living. The company then specs and orders materials that are shipped to the site to be assembled by the client’s builder. Note: pull-out ladder to loft
Casalgrande Padana’s Limpha tiles, which use photocatalysis to break down pollutants in the air, at Cersaie 2019 We’ve seen this trend gaining traction over the last few years. Last year, chemical- and VOC-free materials were highlighted at the London Design Festival, while tiles that use photocatalysis to actively break down pollutants in the air were a hit at Cersaie in Milan.
Brass sconces and a simple but prominent gray hood give the range area the feel of a sophisticated library desk. A sliding slab of polished Calacatta Bluette marble for the backsplash reveals an elegant walnut-lined storage area. Would do sliders so don't need to lean over range though. Like hood style
Fireplace The hearth features layers of burnished steel with a custom patina, striated quartzite slabs and a poured concrete band. The design was inspired by the husband’s career in mining. As the fireplace was developing, he expressed a desire for something that felt “cave-like.” Hall started by hand-selecting the stone slabs and laying them out piece by piece to study the veining pattern. She then worked up a drawing of the stone layout with an overlay of steel and created a full-size template on butcher paper tacked to the wall. Her trusted steel fabricator used that template to cut out the jagged edges that would give the firebox opening its cave-like feel. He also bent the steel inward to create the illusion of depth and thickness.
