A stylish and functional home office can make mundane tasks like paying bills feel like less of a chore. Whether it’s a cork-covered wall, a custom sleeping nook or sculptural storage, this year’s most popular home offices offer great ideas for designing a workspace. Here are the top 10 home offices, as measured by the number of people who saved photos of them to their Houzz ideabooks in 2016. Tell us in the Comments which space is your favorite.
10. Simply chic. This San Francisco home office designed by Katie Martinez keeps it simple and chic with a mounted slab of stained wood for a desk and a wall covered in cork. If you don’t have enough space to dedicate an entire room as an office, consider this option for transforming a single wall.
9. Recurring element. This home office in Melbourne, Australia, speaks to the power of repeating patterns in interior design. Notice how the pattern on the wallpaper is picked up by the three wire baskets on top of the open shelves and again on the wire backs of the two desk chairs.
8. Study and slumber. This well-appointed home office in Moscow has the fit and finish of a first-class sleeper car on a train. With its custom cabinets, antique desk and luxurious daybed, it’s a grand place to get some work done or take a leisurely nap.

This office space in Calgary, Canada, includes custom cabinetry that reaches to the ceiling for ample storage and desk space that can accommodate three people at the same time.
2. Surrounded by loved ones. This relaxed home office designed by Andrew Howard features a handmade framed photo collage of the homeowners’ family and friends. Even when you have to get some work done at home, it’s nice to see a friendly reminder of all the people you love.

Interior designer Alison Johnston says that this San Francisco home office acts as a control center for the family. “Kids work on computers in open spaces, not in their rooms,” she says. The custom built-in desks are covered in green linoleum to provide a durable and cleanable surface.

Great looks and ideas. While these looks don't please everyone, the point is to make creative and functional use of many different spaces, especially small spaces. We do a fair number of home offices and my firm has had one for 9 years. A good eye with an understanding of how the space will be used, depending on the clients and business at hand, is key to creating the space for function and pleasing asthetics.
