Bright as the Sun: Using Yellow
A couple of weeks ago, Pantone and Benjamin Moore announced their color trend predictions for 2009. Both companies have their fingers on the pulse of color, so it's not really a surprise that their predictions for the big hot color of the year were just about exactly the same: It's all about the yellow. Bright and bold and beautiful.
I'm a fan of the color in all of its shades - both in my wardrobe (I have the best pair of yellow shoes) and in the home. One yellow throw pillow can liven up an entire room.

I'd love these pillows even if they were scattered on a dirt floor - the color and pattern is a great combination. But I like them even better set against the walls, which have a slightly greener tint than the pillows themselves. This room is proof that multiple shades really can work together.
Talk about pop. These yellow chairs are so perfect with the blue - fun and friendly and full of energy.
This stationery set is so cute - and I think you could pull both the colors and patterns into a room really effectively. Grey and yellow are everywhere these days - and I think the fussy pattern softens the whole look. I can imagine toile pillows in yellow on a charcoal sofa - the perfect mix of tailored and feminine.
This is another great use of grey with yellow - modern and fresh, but also very comfortale. I like this particular shade of yellow, too - it's just short of chartreuse.
I love this rug. It's cute in this kid's room, but it would be equally appropriate in a modern, clean living room that's purely adult.
There are so many gorgeous yellow flowers - they're a perfect way to brighten up a room. (In fact, right now, Trader Joe's has Irish daffodils for $1.50!) I love how this staid, traditional dining room is made cheerful by a simple vase of flowers.
This mustard entryway is perfectly zen and a total departure from the bright, sunny, youthful look of many yellows. It's calming and focused - I love the idea of seeing this as soon as you enter a home.
