1. Using scissors, cut strips of decorative paper about 8 to 12 inches (20 to 30 centimeters) long by 1 to 2½ inches (3 to 6 centimeters) wide.
2. Starting at the short end, accordion-fold the paper strips into panels and cut off any excess. Make the folds about three-quarters-inch or 1 inch (2 or 3 centimeters), depending on the design you like and the effect you want to achieve.
3. Glue the inside panels of your accordions. Allow to dry.
4. With a pencil, draw the shape you want on one side of each accordion: a semicircle for a ball or a diagonal line for a Christmas tree, for example. Cut along the line to create the 3-D half-shape.
5. Wrap your gifts in kraft paper and glue on your decorations. If you made balls, you could attach a string along the present so that they look as if they’re hanging.
You can also use this idea to customize your greeting cards. Or try sticking two half-shapes together to create decorations for your Christmas tree.
