Seven Sneaky Storage Solutions
Couldn't we all use a little more room? No matter how much I purge from my home as I try to pare things down, it seems like there is never enough storage space. There could be hidden spots all around your home, but you've just not found them. Here are a few places to give a second look.
1. Look under staircases and into deep walls. Be creative about dead space. There is often room under a staircase for a closet, a tiny powder room, or built-in shelves.
2. Consider a compact open kitchen. Seriously purge your kitchen cabinets. Be honest: how many pots and pans, salt shakers, and wineglasses do you really need?
When you pare down to the basics, you'll find you don't need as many cabinets as you thought.

3. Think about window seats and benches. They have plenty of room for cubbies and can tuck away toys, books, hats, gloves.
Using a nook between built-ins can provide half your dining room seating, or even a daybed in a bedroom.

4. Rethink your closets. A room divider can double as a closet or wardrobe. If you have one in a bonus bedroom, you may want to transform it into a compact home office. When you don't want to think about the work, you can easily close the doors and keep it out of your mind.
5. If you have a television, consider mounting it to the wall. Using swing arms and wall mounting a television set take away the need for a cumbersome media console and free up floor space from entertainment units.
7. Look up. Often times we waste great storage space up high just because we can't reach it. This is what step stools and ladders are for!
A flip down shelf can provide a home office that can be easily tucked away.

Bonus: A bookcase that doubles as a secret door. I want one of these!
