I think I have seen this plant in my area.
I am planning to plant shrubs that attract bees, but the only type of bee I'd like not to have around is the carpenter bee, but it is pretty common in this area.

This is the American relative of the Szechuan (Sichuan) pepper bush. It's actually a Rutaceae, which is why it smells like citrus.

Like it's kin, it tends to have nasty thorns.
