Decorating Around a Small Toilet Space in a Half Bath
The quirky San Francisco apartment that I recently moved into has two separate bathrooms. One contains the shower and sink. The other has just the toilet. For some odd reason, the prior tenant decided to paint the toilet room a shocking shade of red and black. Needless to say, I'll be redoing that space. However, I have not quite decided how I want to decorate the tiny room that contains only a toilet.
It's not as if I want to spend a lot of time or money on a small space that serves only the single purpose of using the bathroom. On the other hand, this is a room I have to use every single day and a room that most of my guests are likely to see.
My main goal is to make the little room feel larger than it is. I don't want to feel like I'm being exiled to a closet every time that I need to use the toilet. Vertical-inspired design, light colors and proper use of lighting and mirrors (strategically placed to avoid having to look at yourself on the toilet, of course) are all things I've got in mind for re-doing the space.
There are a lot of half baths and small baths out there. What do you think is the best way to decorate in an area of the home such as this?

I love the way that the tiles behind the toilet create extra vertical space in the room. The toilet room may be small but it doesn't have to feel cramped.
There's a theme in this bathroom. Equestrian might not be your thing but the little touches (including the boots in the corner) pull the room together into a look much bigger than you'd think would be possible in this tiny space.
The pretty floral decorations on the window and the back of the toilet here make it seem like less of a tiny little toilet niche.
There are a few things going right here in this small toilet area. The barrier between toilet and sink is tall enough for privacy but low enough to avoid a cramped toilet niche. The sink shelving is extended even in the small space with an angled design. And the great bowl sink maximizes sink while flaunting style.
We may be looking at a sink here instead of a toilet but the idea is the same. Great wallpaper, lighting and window shades make this tiny bathroom area much more interesting.
The opposite way to go is to stick with pure white decor in your small bathroom. This, especially with the right mirrors and lighting tricks, will make the space seem larger.
The bold color of the accent wall in this small bathroom makes the area much more visually interesting, doesn't it? The small bowl-shaped sink works well here, too.
There are two things I love in this very narrow bathroom space. First, I love the chandelier that draws the eye upwards. And second, I love the tiny sink that provides function without intruding into the space.
The tall plant is a nice touch to that tiny toilet room, isn't it? The bold decor in the adjacent room builds upon this theme.
A small bathroom that is really pulled together well in terms of colors, patterns and accessories is going to be a room that people are happy to see.
