We built our own home and we are about 98% pleased with our choices. There were a few mistakes that it's too late or too expensive to fix which are the source of most of our disappointments.
There are so many things we love in our house, but a few them are one-floor living, heated towel bar in the master bath, underfloor heating in the bath, and motion detector light switch in the pantry as we are never going in or out of there that are hands aren't occupied.
One big disappointment which would be easy to avoid is the plumber put the toilet inlet pipe so close to the floor that I struggle to get a brush under it to clean. He could've easily raised it a couple of inches, it would've made no difference to him, but a huge difference to me on a daily basis as I'm sweeping up kitty litter!
