English Bucolic Chic
Yeah. I'm pretty sure I made this jumbled phrase up. To me it describes the quaint and light simplicity of an English country house, with a touch of sleek and chic. Think Jane Austen made modern.
Rather than the layers of history and decor of a manor house on a landed estate, country cottages came with less . . . stuff. Tenants moved in and out and brought with them an amount able to transport easily by coach. Ah, the simplicity. The sweeping romanticism of living with less, in style.
Take nots on the English Bucolic Chic look:
lots of white
simple lines in furniture
layers of white, cream, and neutral textiles
metal and other modern materials mixed in
simple sculpture and wall art
small, highly functional kitchens
larger-scale dining rooms for everyday eating
plants
good use of natural light
cozy corners for cuddling up
the "sitting room" with space for guests
china and pewter and details
boudoir dressing table
a writing desk

Of course English bucolic chic includes a Jane Austen-esque writing desk, preferably in a central location for writing enduring novels as daily life moves around you.
