I'm talking color in general, and not paint.
No, not really. It's of no value for me to know how a color is made - it's not a smart or strategic use of my time to focus on it. Because there's nothing informative about it and there's absolutely no part of the color-making process that I can control. So, why bother?
I just need to understand the color for what it is in its fully cured and complete state. Specifically, hue, value, chroma and LRV.
Hue - tells me what hue family a color belongs to
Value - tells me how light or dark a color looks
Chroma - tells me how gray or clean a color looks
LRV - tells me how much light the color will reflect and conversely absorb.
That's all I need to know in order to manage the inherent quality of light and what colors go together and harmonize in the space.
