PA Original This is the new PA ORIGINAL variety PA stands for “Pinheiros Altos”, which is the city in Brazil, where the quarry is from. This is a very hard variety, compared to most kinds that come from Brazil. If you’re not too keen on your counter-tops accumulated patina, then this is the choice for you! This is a 5.5 on the Moh’s scale, so its considered a hard soapstone. The background looks very similar to Dark Julia or Julia.

Polished Hastia quartzite was chosen for the top of the island. “We went with the thicker top to add a little more interest and make it look substantial,” says Spanier, of TZS Design. “Everyone loves marble, but it’s porous and will stain. This quartzite has a nice, controlled veining that gives you a marble kind of look but better durability.”

Super white quartzite La Pietra Tile & Stone I definitely recommend the honed finish. The honed surface is much more forgiven to the etch marks. They will become part of the patina of the counter. The polish finish makes the etch marks stand out way more specially where there is a lot of light reflection. keep in mind that the lighter the super white the more likely it will have some stress fissures. Don't freak out its a rock the fissures is nothing that the fabricator can't smooth them out. The picture of the kitchen above is polished finish. I recommend you asking your fabricator for a sealed sample of super white and test it out yourself. See if the etch marks is something that you will bother you every time you see it. You can ask the fabricator for a satin finish which is between honed and polished.

White Macaubas can be a more difficult stone to work with from a fabricator's end because it is a very hard stone. Quartzite is actually harder than granite, so it is more labor intensive to work with. It can be a little bit more maintenance for a homeowner than granite. We have heard of this stone etching (or dulling) from acidic products being left on the surface. Consequently, we recommend that you have this stone honed when it is installed. To prevent etching from occurring, simply wipe up any spills (especially those from coffee, fruit juices, and oils) in a timely manner.

Taj Mahal quartzite. just as dense and durable as a granite. too beige? a little creamier, with a touch of warm grey. What I love about it is how you can see into the stone, which is a quality of quartzite material. And best of all... No speckles!
