FLAVIN - MCM Text
Modern homes first appeared in the United States in the earlier part of the 20th Century, almost 30 years before the emergence of mid-century modern style. The Bauhaus movement in Europe greatly influenced the developing design aesthetic, and was often manifested as either villas for the elite, or social housing for the poor. Architects and builders transformed this polarity of aesthetics into a uniquely American vision that captured the needs of the expanding middle class at the time. These homes also reflected the refinement that comes with 30 years of practice, along with ever improving building techniques and materials.
