My Streptocarpus
One of my newly hybridized seedlings opening a first flowers. This is DS Africa x Moscow Lady and at 8 cm and still opening, it is a very promising flower! I love the throat. Now to observe it for 3 generations to see if it's stable, or drops flowers, or proves difficult to propagate, etc before I can decide if I want to name and register it.
Streptocarpus 'Little Kan' by hybridizer Kenji Hirose of Japan. This is my plant I have had for a few years now. It was recently awarded Best in Class at my local AVSA club show in Atlanta, May 13th 2017. The entire plant from leaf tip to untrimmed tip measures 10 inches. Compact and small, but not quite a true miniature. Flowers are about 1 inch wide. Easy to grow!
Bristol's Spectacular - aptly named, it is the most consistent fantasy strep in my collection, where as most other fantasy streps tend to have little fantasy streaking in my hot summer, Spectacular never wavers. But, it likes to bloom itself to death so I have to pinch buds and trim leaves to encourage to keep making leaves.
Neil's Babe - huge flowers can exceed 4 inches wide just like on DS Yarilo.
Valor by Piotr Klezcynski of Poland shown here in summer bloom in warm weather. Barely any purple netting in yellow lower lip turns intensely purple in cool temperatures.
Valor by Piotr Klezcynski of Poland. Very pale purple netting in summer over yellow, but very dark when cold. I should upload a comparison bloom in warmer temps.
Fred's Yellow Ice - heavy bloomer. I keep wanting to call this one 'Fred's Yellow Snow'. Haha.
Drako by Piotr Klezcynski of Poland. A bit more peachy on top and slightly less pink than my photos suggest. Stunning large flowers in person.
Feathered Silk - heavy bloomer. I suspect this is like Bristol's Spectacular in that you have to watch it or it'll bloom itself to death.
DS Lena - also by Pavel, is a semi-double. I think it can be more fully double when the plant is mature but I hope the flower form won't be too disrupted. I like the classic natural shape to be retained.
DS White Gold - hybridized by Pavel Enkeev, Ukraine.
Ambra - in cooler temperatures such as in winter, several of my streptocarpus (just like my African Violets) bloom with far darker, more intense colors than they do in summer heat.
UA Solar Eclipse - Russian
Zlotko - hybrid steptocarpus by Piotr Klezcynski of Poland. It was actually even more intensely lemon yellow than my camera shows here and the flowers did not fade.
Wow, shown here in summer color. In heat it shows a very nice, strong dark pink edging around the yellow and less so for me in cooler weather.
Roulette Azur. This variety sometimes displays stripes and dark netting in the lower petals and white throat.
Exotica - Russian hybrid with smallish but dainty flowers with frilled edges.
Caitlyn by Dibley's of Wales. Small grower, VERY robust blooming like Falling Stars.
A fresh shipment just arrived of 36 varieties of streptocarpus from a friend's collection. More than 100 plants.
DS Kalahari - first blooms on a young plant. The leaf was put down November 2nd and shown here with first flower on April 24th. The light passing from behind makes the upper petals look more pink than red.

Streptocarpus 'Water Bug' by Ralf Robinson, Violet Barn, USA.
This photo of 'Bristol's Waterbug' won first place in a Violet Barn photo contest. Yay! I have been awarded a $50 gift certificate and they may use it on their website. They initially got my name wrong but posted a correction. Compare this to the photo of the same plant throwing a flower with extra petals in my summer heat.
