Guest Picks: I Could Design a Room Around This Fabric!
Today I’ve put together an ideabook of fabric intended to bring spectacular color and pattern to window treatments. Allow me to take you outside the comfort of beige and taupe and catapult you into melon and wasabi. And, if you can sew a straight line and don’t mind a little math, you too can create looks not found in any catalog or on the department store shelf.
Go ahead, give it a try. You’ll find the harder you work at it, the luckier you’ll get. — Ellen from Nouveau Stitch
Fun. Seashell-y. Nautical without looking all blue and white. A joy, matey!
For some reason, when I look at this fabric the word "groovy" comes to mind. Throw in some white shag carpeting and fire up the lava lamp. Yeah, baby!
One of my all-time favorite fabrics honoring my all-time favorite city. The graphic and gritty nature of the print makes it a perfect choice for a future thespian's boudoir.
Akin to having a famous painting adorning your windows, this work of colorful art exemplifies the French aesthetic. Daring and darling.
Timeless. The colorway suggests classic but the deco motif kicks it up a notch. Library-perfect.
For the Traditionalist in all of us. Linen, botanical and a killer color palette.
Hmmm. Funny, I don't remember vintage being this cool. Awesome fabric to crank the casa up a notch.
Pink and white and coveted all over!
With this at your windows, no one could ever accuse you of being a color/pattern prude! Delicious, ambitious and a tad capricious. Scandinavian or scandalous?
I like this. A lot. Doodle-esque in style, the simplicity of design and subtle coloration haunts me.
When I saw this at its Blogfest 2011 debut, well, I silently planted a kiss smack dab on the lips of the fabric gods! I LOVE that there's a tassel border added to the selvage. Use this feature at the leading edge of your drapery panels and you've saved yourself the need to add a contrasting fabric or expensive trim. Incredibly fun colors to play with too!
Can we talk about this peony for a moment? I mean, couldn't you just die? The detail, the color, the dimension! You'd have to have a party just to show everybody your cool peony draperies. Then they'd all have peony envy.
Graphics get me every time. This one's a bit on the wild side yet sports a restful colorway — perfect for those among us who just can't decide if our decor is modern retro or vintage contemporary.
Crisp. Clean. Nautical. Perfect for your Hamptons spread and/or your Altoona bungalow.
Available for online purchase, this US-produced fabric would be my first choice when it's time to redo the master bedroom. I mean, really — blues and greens? There is no more restful combo in my book.
Understated yet fun, the color combo of charcoal and wasabi would stretch me beyond my comfort zone and force me to add a raspberry or turquoise accent here and there for a little somethin' somethin' extra.
This sunflower extravaganza may not replace your morning cup of joe, but I'm pretty sure this is what Katie Couric has on her breakfast room windows. Extra perky... with a side of bacon.
Available in a multitude of colorways and groundcloths, this stunner as draperies would make your mother-in-law cry "Uncle!" and give up her dream as a contestant on Designer Wars, throwing her support behind her "brilliant" daughter-in-law instead.
Talk about a focal point! This modern take on my favorite '70s pattern, paired with a minty-green wall color, speaks anything but vintage. Absolutely my newest favorite color: Apricot. Next: More guest blogger product picks
A little Tim Burton-ish, but awesome nonetheless. The cartoonish curlicues make it a great candidate for the playroom.
