SUB ZERO – WORTH WATING FOR: (this too shall pass)
THE JOURNEY - If I promised you the spouse of your dreams in a year or you can marry that person sitting over there today since you are in a hurry, what would you do?
I waited 13 months, it’s over now, all is well, and I am in love with a refrigerator. Also, a Wolf range, microwave, and a Wolf countertop oven. If I had not waited, I would kick myself every day. Especially since it flew by. My suggestion- don’t short-change yourself and just enjoy the journey. Look forward to the day you get the call. It is worth it. Five years from now when this shortage is all over, and your guest asks you why you didn’t go with a Sub Zero what will you say.
When I first started looking for new appliances, I could not find a brand of refrigerator that did not have an active or newly settled class action suit against them for sub-standard products. In some cases, the manufacturers were currently selling the same flawed products that they were being sued for. The strategy of throwing a few hundred dollars to settle with the few who sign up to sue, apparently still nets more profit, as they all do it. Class action means there are many people with the same problem. Why would I knowingly sign up for that.
You saw a previous review from someone who called Sub-Zero and was told some of the interior components where yellowing too fast, so they were looking for better quality plastics causing some delays. …guarantee you the popular brand at your retailer would be shipping those babies out as fast as they came off the line. White yellows. Known fact. No liability.
THE COMPANY – Sub-Zero does not have to "bow" to shareholders as they are a privately held family company. So they do the right thing, and sell a high quality product. How about all of those manufacturers “owned” by shareholders?? Remember, creating shareholder wealth is the FIRST rule in ALL publicly held companies. Not quality, thus the new term, “built in obsolescence.”
Large private family-owned businesses like Sub-Zero/ Wolf with old fashioned principles are rare today. Chik-fil-a is another. Enough said.
THE SERVICE – What you won’t see until you take delivery is the quality of service. I can guarantee you that you have never experienced anything like it. Extensive training, no one is being timed on a call, no one talks like a robot, and most importantly they answer the phone, even encouraging you to call for anything. Even the chefs doing cooking demos online say, “give us a call”. Additionally, anything you want to know about any of their products is already on the internet and easy to find.
THE QUALITY - Let me give you one just one example since brevity is an issue. Go to your Big Box store and put a magnet against any refrigerator. It will stick. A magnet will not stick to a Sub-Zero/Wolf. Which one do you think is made with higher quality stainless steel? Google it.
WORK AROUND – What do you do while you wait? Use the refrigerator you have or take your fridge with you if you move. Can also buy an inexpensive refrigerator and donate to Habitat or put it in your new garage. …always a way.
Enjoy the journey AND the next 20+ years or so. You deserve it.
