Modern Icons: The Louis Ghost Chair
Ah Louis XV. Most of what I know about you, I know from Sofia Coppola's film, "Marie Antoinette," which wasn't exactly historically accurate. It also makes me envision Rip Torn in tights. The only other thing I know about you is that you had some really luxe furnishings around the chateau, a tradition your ancestor Jason Schwartzman, I mean, Louis XVI, and his bride Marie would continue.
In 2002, another Louis XV heir was born, and it came from the brain of Phillipe Starck. The shape grew from the familiar lines of the classic French Louis XV chair, but you may not recognize it at first, because you can see right through it. The modern Louis XV can be ordered up in clear or opaque injection-molded polycarbonate, in a range of colors.
The great thing about being able to see through furniture is that it helps small spaces feel much more open. If you have a crammed dining room or kitchen eating area, these chairs will not clutter it up. Likewise, if you have a desk in the bedroom and want to lose that office feeling, the chair is unobtrusive. The Louis XV is also glamorous as all get-out. It's great as a dressing table chair or as a sculptural conversation-starting occasional chair in a living room. If being able to see through your chairs is not for you, they are also available in solid black and solid white. However, today we're going to look at just how effective the clear version is at visually opening up some different spaces. Take it away, Houzz designers!

These Louis chairs are the right choice for this industrial-inspired kitchen.
The chairs make this home office seem so much larger than it is.
Everything in this dining room is a bit of a furniture ghost! The table and chairs reflect the spectacular view from the ceiling.
Here the chairs, along with the modern light fixtures, provide a contrast to the rough hewn reclaimed wood. This is a great example of mixing old and new.
Mrs. Limestone's workspace is a very popular one, and the Louis chair lets us see right through to the zebra rug.
The Louis XV chair is just the chair you need for guests in your office. It's one you don't use as often, so it should take up less space visually.
