@di0spyr0s we started our original cabinet design in October 2020, then our whole house start was delayed in December from the original of January 2021 to May 2021, so our cabinet designer kind of went AWOL.
When we got back at it, she would still take two to three weeks to get back to me. At one point it took a month. I tried to be patient, and I had basically designed my layouts myself so it was just a matter of tweaking dimensions on her end. I sent her a hood saying this is what I would like it to look like. She returned a hood that looked nothing like it. When I said, I want it to look just like my inspiration, 10 days later I got it back looking perfect. I'll never understand why she did some of the things she did. I'd have hated to see what it would have been like if I had started with zero and needed to go back and forth. I'm sure I annoyed her too, with a few changes, but mostly they were options for later or switching the order of things.
Anyways, the majority of our windows and doors were in by the end of August (minus the front door and a door that had to be sent back). We signed off on the cabinets on September 20th. I've been told by our builder they won't be completed until the end of February, so a five month lead time. If they come in when promised we should be okay, but if they are later than estimatd delivery its going to delay our move in. I think it would have been better if our cabinets were signed off on around the same time as dry-in.
Most of our trim was custom milled locally, some was custom from Vintage Woodworks and a little bit came from our local builder supply. We signed off on most of it by the end of September although the locally milled stuff was a bit later. It was all delivered within 6 weeks.
We ordered all our tile for the floors in October. We bought it ourself because what was anywhere between $30-$55 dollars at the tile vendor, even with the discounts, I was able to source online for $15-$17 a sf, saving us double and triple on some of it. It was a huge investment and a bit stressful waiting for it to arrive to know if it was truly good tile, but both the reviews and the samples we received were wonderful so we took the chance. It came crated and was packaged beautifully and despite shipping all the way across the country, I honestly don't think one piece was broken.. They've been installing it the past two weeks and should wrap up the grouting part next week.
I signed off on our engineered hardwood floor selection end of December, mostly because of a projected price increase on it as of January 1. With flooring it really depends on what you are wanting. I am going with a less popular color so it was readily available. If I had gone with the most popular color, she still would have been able to get it, but it was requiring an immediate decision, because there was very limited quanitity and if it was gone it could be months and months before it would be back in.
All of our appliances and plumbing fixtures i signed off on back in July and August respectively. Our range was ordered in July and supposedly will ship from Italy in Februrary, but whether it will make it here by April, who knows? I looked at changing to a CAFE but they told me end of April and the price had gone up $3300 since I first had that one priced in June.
Basically it really does come down to the sooner the better. Don't panic, but if you know what you want, get it ordered and if you don't know, it's time to know...:-)
