My garden - A work in progress
This page will show you the changes throughout the seasons as well as materializing my plans. With the exception of few plants, most will go through the hot and dry summer unharmed. Rain water is stored for a short term to be used following a dry spell. Water from AC runoff and some kitchen water provide the rest in the summer.
Starting was not so easy. Chemical fertilizers and pesticides (against mole-crickets) have made their share of damage. By the time I started gardening, I have taken the organic approach to tackling the problem. Still, there were as many plans as people taking care of the garden in those early days. The unique light-and-shade pattern shifting throughout the day has created its challenges too. Direct sun around noon and shade for much of the day have yielded a mixed bag of results and a mix of green spots and bare spots. This has created clutter which has been taken care of as the years have carved-out my know-how and experience. The lemon and the two olives have now enough room to grow. The Araucaria towers high above the garden and no longer disturbs the olive and the Loquat underneath. Gaps between trees were filled with carefully-selected potted plants which can be taken away for maintenance.
