Going Baroque
This style comes from the Baroque period in Italy, in the early 17th through mid 18th century. Eventually, all of Europe adapted this over-the-top, flourishing aesthetic. The only rule when you’re going for a Baroque look is that you can never get too fancy. Look for curved lines, black and gold palettes, hand-painted embellishments and intricate designs. If going all out Baroque feels like too much, incorporate a piece or two into your current decor to make a style statement—we especially love ornamental mirrors and scroll-back settees.

Baroque Inspired DecorNo matter that your style, you can have a little fun with Baroque decor. Lighting, rugs, and mirrors are an easy way to add an Italian touch without changing the look of your space. Try anchoring a contemporary living room with an eye-catching black and gold rug, or add a pop of color to your bathroom with a bright yellow mirror that turns romantic Baroque into something a bit more playful. You can subtly nod to the style with wallpaper, throw pillows, or drapes. The drama of Baroque isn’t for everyone, but a touch of the statement-making style looks good anywhere.
Baroque Inspired FurnitureWhen choosing furniture in the Baroque aesthetic, look for heavy pieces with lots of curves and curlicues. You’ll find lots of items in darker palettes and with rich upholstery like velvet. You can choose distressed and finely detailed pieces for an authentic look, or create a more modern take with all black furniture and hints of contemporary style. We also love pairing stately Baroque pieces with vastly different aesthetics—think clean and modern or bright and playful. If you want to try this trend, just be careful. We recommending choosing one style as the foundation and sprinkling in the other pieces to highlight your overall design.
