Extra Seating For The Holidays
With all the gathering, partying, and eating we do at the holidays, it can be difficult to find enough seating for those joining in. Guests love to mill around the kitchen and watch while you work, so why not give them a place to sit? Finding space around the table is tough too—luckily we have some clever solutions. And what about the living room? You’ll need more than just a couch to accommodate your guest list.

Living RoomIt’s time to think outside the box—you’ve got a lot of guests to seat. First, nix the throw pillows on your couch to add space (no one will be looking for them, trust us). Then, invest in a wide arm chair that can fit more than one person. If it comes with an ottoman, even better! Benches are good in the living room for the same reason they are in the dining room. In fact, you can buy just one and move it when it’s time for dinner. A garden stool can function as a side table when the guests leave, and poufs can be stowed under the coffee table. Speaking of coffee tables, one that doubles as an ottoman is your best bet.
Kitchen & Dining RoomMake space at your breakfast bar, island, or even kitchen cart for a few stools or bar chairs. Wherever you can find an empty ledge in your kitchen, you’ll want to pull up a seat. In the dining room, a bigger table isn’t always an option. We love the idea of using bench seating rather than chairs to fit as many people in as possible (plus, they look less cluttered in a small space). You can even put a small apartment settee at the table for extra room that’s incredibly comfortable and stylish. Not your thing? Get some new dining chairs with a slim profile.
