Houzz Contributor. Hi there! I live in a 1940s cottage in Atlanta that I'll describe as "collected."
I got into design via Landscape Architecture, which I studied at the University of Virginia.

Oh, how I dream of having a closet like the celebrities in magazines, or on MTV Cribs. I'll take Oprah's Nate Berkus-designed work closet, Tamara Mellon's Jimmy Choo collection-holding closet, Jenna Lyons' whole room turned closet (wait, I think i first saw that in "Broadcast News" - the seed was planted in me then!), and Nanette Lepore's crystal chandeliered huge room of a closet.
However, many of us have to deal with the closets that came with our Arts and Crafts bungalows, 1970's tract houses, and atomic ranches. Below are some fantasy closets we can gleam fun ideas from, as well as some more realistic examples of how to expand storage space for our goods and garbs.

This glam closet has always stuck in my brain. Love the wallpaper, love the jewelery stand, love the well-lit portrait.
While this is a large closet to begin with, hitting the container stores and working with one of their associates can expand your storage capacity exponentially.
This is a great example of maximizing space in a child's closet. Because their clothes are so short, you can fit in extra hanging rods, which leaves room for lot of shelves.
This is my own secret indulgence; my pursery. It used to be my nephew's nursery, but when I bought the house, I had my own babies - my bags!
When your closet space is sorely lacking, add armoires for more clothing.
I just love the architecture of this closet-like nook and thought I'd throw it in the mix.
Closet doors don't have to be ho-hum. The fine wood and hardware on these add immense architectural interest to the room.
I think I'd forgo a bedroom large enough to fit dressers in order to have all of my clothing in one organized space like this one.
The way this bedroom was designed, the closets become part of the wall.
I am loving the skylight. I'm not sure if this is part of a bathroom or just a really fabulous linen closet.
These fancy doors make this closet look like a Brooks Brothers or a Ralph Lauren store.
This closet has so much light that a plant lives in there. Note the way the tie racks are hung, keeping the lines of the built-in features.

So thanks for the ideas. I am in a rental, but might wallpaper either inside or outside the cupboards - I have exactly six maybe 30cm doors and that’s it!!! Inside my bedroom. Also like the idea of getting new handles for the doors. I already have velvet hangers which I love. Might also get a glam light fitting as I do not have sufficient light in that area. I do have an IKEA four drawer dresser as well. It not very big though. So off to measure and off to the shops.
