Summer Nights Need Summer Beds
As the days get warmer, my bedroom gets stuffier. Summertime means a fan that's constantly running and a comforter that gets absolutely no love until fall.
Summer is also an ideal time to do a little switching out in the bedroom (and in the rest of the house). Trade heavy linens for light and put away the dark colors in favor of brights and whites. The effect will make the space feel cooler - partly because of lighter weight linens and partly due to the psychological effects of lighter, brighter colors.
So far, all I've done at home is change my sheets, but it has made a difference. For inspiration, I found these photos, all of great summer bedroom spaces:

I love this room's summer cottage feel. From the walls and the nautical chart to the weathered wood of the table, it's pure beachy summer.
Mosquito nets are kind of cool, in an exotic but somehow girly way. They're also totally practical, when used as intended.
Speaking of mosquito nets, this big one is pretty gorgeous. It's also probably necessary, since this bed is perched in a tent in South Africa.
This is a great example of an everyday bedroom that's got a sweet, summery feel thanks to flowers, light linens, and thin blankets.
I couldn't resist including a sleeping porch photo in this batch, since sleeping on a porch is one of my favorite thigns ever. I love these patchwork quilts, too - they're just the right weight for summer and have that great "summer house" feel.
These bright, light blankets are a great, easy way to brighten up a bed for summer.
This is another perfect summer blanket - and I love it paired with all-white linens and that pretty pale blue lamp.
This room's combination of beachy color and weathered texture makes it perfect for summer.

Great post. I just bought an old chicken coop and am looking to turn it into a summer hangout for my daughter and friends, one area will be devoted to a sleeping porch theme. Getting ready to post a picture of it in it's raw state. We still have to find someone to move it for us as I don't want to take it apart and reassemble it. www.urbanfarmhouse.blogspot.com

Oh yeah, give me that bed in the tent. But I also loved the sleeping porch!

One of the greatest things about summer in New England is the swinging beds in screened porches. Some are made of canvas and wood frames, with a mattress, hung by ropes from the ceiling or porch beams. They make superb relaxing spots during the hot hours of the day, and sleeping at night is bliss.
