my houzz
My home is a simple cabin in small town Tennessee (modest 2400sqft red stained cabin). On the outside it’s really plain Jane although i do have lovely wooded views and an amazing creek right off the back porch. On the inside it does have unique personality but i can’t say i would even begin to compare it to the inspirational photographs of the homes/rooms found on Houzz. While my designed spaces are not “high end”, i think they do show what can be done with a little imagination and some elbow grease for “average folks with modest homes” :)
My designed spaces do lean vintage or farmhouse style, but i would say my overall design is definitely eclectic. My kitchen is designed with a farmhouse vibe, my master bedroom is where i attempted to get “classy”, a guest bedroom in a “farmhouse chic” style, a guest bathroom in a “vintage sea monster theme” and a second guestroom with a very detailed “quilt wall”. All of these rooms were designed with the help of Houzz design dilemmas. It really is amazing just how helpful Houzz can be when it comes to design. It’s not only incredibly helpful but it’s really fun to share your design process and get help from strangers that simply want to see your home look beautiful.
The “quilt wall room” is kind of special as it relates to Houzz. I began painting the walls of a guest bedroom in 12x12 blocks with each block having it’s own design. I posted my progress in a thread on Houzz and many people joined in the fun posting ideas for the blocks; Many even requested specific designs that would represent them in a special block on the wall. So not only is the room unique, but it is personal for some Houzz participants. In fact i still have people requesting their own blocks! Even Houzz itself has its own block. I was so thrilled with finding your website and being able to share and collaborate with others while creating the wall that i dedicated one square to Houzz with the Houzz logo :)
My designed rooms are fun and eclectic and many “houzzers” do seem to enjoy them, I guess im just concerned because i feel they are not “polished” or “upscale” like all of the beautiful homes/rooms i see on houzz, rather my rooms consist of a lot of diy projects! Also my entire home has not been designed, my living room for example, is pretty ho-hum, definitely nothing special, as is the master bath, so I’m not sure if just featuring the designed/finished rooms is something you would want to do. If you would like I can send you more photographs of my home for you to decide if you’d like to feature it. If you really wanted to go ahead with a feature i would say that could be done in a month or two, that way the spaces will all be completed and photograph ready (and ready to be put on the market!).
