Moroccan Style
Between Sex and the City II, Casablanca, rocking the casbah, plans for a trip this fall falling through and My Marrakesh, I've had Morocco on the brain lately.
What makes it Moroccan? Well, I admit, I am not an expert, but I have certain associations - I think of Yves Saint Laurent and Talitha Getty in their hideaways. I think of marketplaces and long gauzy skirts and curtains. I think of a hippie-living Kate Winslet in Hideous Kinky. Of furniture inlaid with intricate patterns. Of elaborately patterned textiles that glimmer and reflect light. Tiles and screens with precisely punctured geometric patterns. Lanterns made of metal and colored glass. Comfort sitting on the floor - oversized pillows and poofs.
What looks do you associate with Morocco? Please share them with me in the comments. Also, please forgive me if some of this is technically from India or elsewhere. I'm thinking of Morocco as a jumping off point for imported exotic style.

A silky place to lounge, complete with hookah pipe bring a bit of the exotic African coast to this lanai.
Lanterns, Bogart and Bergman bring touches of Morocco to this space.
This combination of the tiles, the arching ceilings and the colorful light fixtures give this poolhouse a Moroccan feel.
Intricate textiles are used to block the beating sun.
More elaborate textiles add a dash of Moroccan bohemian style.
Why not make your laundry room exotic - the decor doesn't have to reflect the drudgery of separating out your whites.
ditto.
More fantastic tile in dazzling colors - I love that it covers the entire archway overhead.
The beautiful inlaid chest of drawers adds glamor to this seating area.
In this era of the staycation, why not build your own hookah conversation/fire pit?
