New use for old kitchen cabinets
This was one of the upper cabinets. I removed the door, patched screw holes, primed and painted. A couple hours labor, a paint sample, and I have a closet organizer. The closet had the same beige carpet as the rest of the house with the bifold door track mounted on top of the carpet. A couple hours were spent cutting with a carpet knife, removing tack strips, and scrapping glued padding. I used a stain/finish product to put some color on the subfloor. It's not great, but it is a closet. Most of the floor covered and the doors kept closed equals "it'll do for now."
This 12" wide drawer unit needed the least amount of work. I scrubbed it and slid it into the linen closet. It holds tooth cleaning supplies, first aid, sunscreen, lotion, soaps, and all those other small items that would otherwise clutter up a bathroom. I lost one and a half shelves in the 2'x2' space, but found enough supplies for several months hidden behind a jumble of stuff in baskets. Now I can actually find a bandaid and antiseptic cream without dripping blood on the table cloths.
Upper kitchen cabinet, patched and painted, replaces the rickety desk extension for my monitor. The monitor is elevated on a kitchen cupboard wire organizer designed for dishes. The old kitchen cabinet also provides storage without crawling under the desk. It will soon be full of books. During catnaps, I place my wireless keyboard on my lap and keep working. Spent about $100 on the Michael's craft table modules, which provide lateral space without obstructing access to the closet and window in the 8x8 room. The printer sits on a two drawer file in the back corner. plastic office drawer units keep loose supplies handy, leaving me 2' of walk space to get to my chair. Another bookcase is in the lower right of photo taken from inside the closet.
